Camp Counsellor

Camp Counsellors play a key role in creating a safe, fun, and engaging environment for children aged 5–13. Working closely with the Camp Supervisor, they manage and supervise a group of campers throughout the day, leading activities, supporting program delivery, and ensuring all safety protocols are followed. Camp Counsellors help bring the summer day camp experience to life while fostering teamwork, creativity, and positive camper experiences.

Supervision:
Camp Counsellors are responsible for supervising and supporting a group of campers aged 5–13, ensuring a safe, fun, and inclusive environment throughout the day. They guide campers and volunteers through the daily camp program and activities, setting a positive example and assisting in managing volunteers by providing direction, encouragement, and mentorship.

Communication:
Counsellors maintain open communication with campers’ parents, providing daily updates and feedback on each child’s experience, while collaborating closely with fellow staff members to ensure smooth program delivery.

Planning & Engagement:
Plan and lead daily activities that focus on skill development, games, and creative experiences, and contribute to the planning and execution of special events and group-wide activities. Counsellors also share mealtime with their campers, supporting a positive eating experience and helping with cleanup. Building strong relationships with campers is key, with attention to individual needs, special requirements, and health concerns.

Health & Safety:
Health and safety are a top priority for Camp Counsellors. They follow and enforce all camp safety protocols, health guidelines, and operating procedures, supervising campers in the swimming pool and other activity areas to ensure safety at all times. By modeling conscientious behavior and adhering to camp policies, counsellors serve as positive role models for campers, staff, and volunteers alike.

Camp Supervisor

Each camp location is led by a Camp Supervisor, who is responsible for overseeing all camp operations and ensuring a safe, engaging, and well-run environment. The Supervisor manages a small team of Camp Counsellors, Counsellors-in-Training (CITs), and volunteers, providing guidance, support, and mentorship throughout the day. In addition to team management, the Supervisor may also be directly responsible for supervising a group of campers, ensuring their safety, engagement, and overall positive camp experience.

Pre-Camp walk through:
Prior to the start of camp, the Supervisor completes a walk-through of the camp location to become familiar with pick-up and drop-off areas, field and indoor locations, and set-up requirements—a process that typically takes 45–60 minutes.

Management of camp location:
Supervisors manage a team of Counsellors, Counsellors-in-Training (CITs), Leaders-in-Training (LITs), and volunteers, ensuring staff follow the camp program and activities while maintaining a fun and safe atmosphere. They handle administrative tasks from head office, manage and record onsite product orders, and troubleshoot any issues or situations that arise during camp.

Communication:
Communication is a key component of the role. Supervisors regularly liaise with head office, provide evaluations and recommendations for their staff, give daily feedback to parents, and capture and share photos from camp with head office.

Planning & Engagement:
Supervisors are also actively involved in planning and delivering the daily program, which includes skill development, games, and other activities. They contribute to planning special events for their group or the entire camp, share mealtimes with campers to ensure a positive experience and assist with cleanup, and build strong relationships with campers while remaining aware of individual needs, special requirements, and health concerns.

Health & Safety:
Health and safety are a top priority. Supervisors enforce all camp safety plans, return-to-camp operating guidelines, and any required infectious disease measures. They supervise campers in the swimming pool, assisting aquatic staff as needed to ensure all pool rules and regulations are followed.

Organization & Inventory Management:
In addition, Supervisors are responsible for maintaining organization at the camp location, keeping equipment, supplies, and products orderly, and managing inventory throughout the season. This includes storing, transporting, and returning equipment and supplies to head office at the end of the season, using provided shipping materials for remote locations.

Throughout all responsibilities, Camp Supervisors serve as positive role models by demonstrating conscientious behavior and supporting camp policies for campers, staff, and volunteers alike.

Counsellor in Training (CIT)

Counsellors-in-Training (CITs) work closely with Camp Counsellors and Supervisors to support the delivery of camp activities and help create a safe, fun, and engaging environment for all campers. Under the guidance and direction of Counsellors and Supervisors, CITs assist with planning and supervising campers throughout all aspects of the camp day. Depending on experience and program needs, CITs may also be assigned responsibility for a small group of campers.
